Target audience research
As shown in the given brief, my Target is BBC Three. The audience of BBC Three is young people. In order to understand if my basic idea will work, I need to ask young people if they would like to see a documentary about the problems of social media and to see what they already understand. For example, there is no point in talking about certain subjects, if people already fully understand them.
As BBC explained the aim (remit) of BBC Three is to bring younger audiences to high quality public service broadcasting through a mixed-genre schedule of innovative UK content featuring new UK talent. The channel should use the full range of digital platforms to deliver its content and to build an interactive relationship with its audience. The channel’s target audience is 16-34 year old's.
BBC Three programs should exhibit some or all of the following characteristics: high quality, original, challenging, innovative and engaging, and it should nurture UK talent. BBC Three should deliver its remit by broadcasting a high proportion of original UK produced content across a range of genres, and by taking creative risks and experimenting with new talent and new ideas, in particular in the area of UK comedy. The channel should feature a mixed-genre schedule throughout the year, including peak viewing hours.
In my survey I managed to get people of the exact demographic of BBC Three. It turns out that a lot of people actually watch BBC Three, which matches my initial client research. People have also said that they would like to watch BBC Three. Although some people have said that they do not watch BBC Three, that does not mean that they would not watch the documentary. Therefore I will need to make sure that the rest of the survey narrows down my selection of topics in order to refine my video for their liking.
100% of people watch and like documentaries which means that documentaries will defiantly match with the audience. However when it came to the types of documentaries there was a very mixed feeling with the types. Although I am aiming to make a documentary on myself, which matches the majority of the responses, I am also going to include voiceovers in order to match with the expository codes and conventions.
Most people also feel like they have issues with social media and a third believe that they have somewhat of an issue with social media. Therefore this means that my documentary will appeal to the audience as they are aware of there addictions. Social media causes many problems for young people as explained in my subject research. Only 16% of people know the problems that social media has on them. 33% know what the problems of social media are, yet they still use social media. The statistic that effects my documentary the most is the fact 50% of people don't know the problems that social media causes.
